Travel
Travel is a 15 year old grade mare (Tennessee Walker/Quarter Horse) I found on Craigslist "free to good home". She had an eye injury and her owner could not afford to take her to the vet. He wanted to find a good home for her—someone who could get her the medical care that she needed. He told me she was gaited and a really good riding horse. He hated to see a good horse not get the care she deserved. So I went to look at her and when I got there I discovered she was completely blind! What I didn't understand was that she had already lost sight in her right eye and now her left eye was inflamed at swollen almost shut. She also wasn't being fed properly. I couldn't leave her there! So I loaded her up and took her to the vet right away. Turns out she has a condition called Moonblindness or Equine Recurrent Uveitis. After medicating her eye 5-6 times a day for a month or so and a few months of lots of hay and grain, we rode her. We found out that not only does she have a heart of gold, but she is an excellent riding horse. Travel is not for beginner riders, but does well with intermediate to advanced riders. She's got that running walk and she can really travel!   |
